The FUS chair (meaning ’first’) was originally designed for The National Design Competition '97: New School - New Needs (Statens Designkonkurranse ’97: Ny skole – nye behov). FUS was awarded 1st prize.

 

Its tubular steel construction embraces its back and seat as a bumper all the way around. If the chair flips backward, falls sideways or pulls against the wall, the steel frame always hits first. The chairs design therefore resists to damage.

 

The sinus-curved tube to which the seat is attached gives a moving torsional suspension to the seat. FUS provides comfortable seating and the chair is stackable.

 

This makes FUS ideal for public spaces.
